How do I apply for temporary housing due to hurricane?

At this time, Manatee County has one Red Cross shelter open but is at maximum capacity, however that can change daily, as well we are trying to open a second shelter.

At this time, Manatee County Government does not provide any direct financial assistance for housing, but I have included the agencies that we fund for housing services as well as other agencies that we do not directly fund, but that provide housing services and may be able to assist you. I have also included the links for the Manatee County Housing Authority, Bradenton Housing Authority and the Affordable Housing that may have units available. I would also recommend the Suncoast 2-1-1 site (link below) – they have disaster recover page that may be able to assist you.

  • Turning Points-941-747-1509 - rent only (rapid rehousing/homeless prevention)
  • Catholic Charities – 941-244-9490 - rental and utility assistance
  • Step Up Suncoast – 941-827-0188 – rent and electric only.
  • Manatee Religious Services – 941-752-4271- rental and utility assistance
  • Stillpoint House of Prayer – 941-748-6835 (M-F/ 9-11:30am) – rent only.

I would also encourage you to complete a FEMA application at https://www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362 if you have not already done . You may also want to reach out to the Florida United Methodist Conference for short term, free Airbnb rentals, information below.

Key Takeaways

  • Airbnb.org is providing free, temporary housing for people who have been displaced by Hurricane Helene in several US states.
  • Airbnb.org will also support those impacted by Hurricane Milton.
  • The organization has partnered with local nonprofits and 211 contact centers in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia to connect people with a free place to stay.

To support residents who have been displaced from their homes or forced to evacuate by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Airbnb.org is working with the Florida United Methodist Conference (FLUMC), United WayGlobal Empowerment Mission (GEM), and 211 contact centers in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia to offer free, temporary housing. Stays are completely free for guests and are funded by Airbnb.org and the generosity of Airbnb hosts — many of whom offer their home for free or at a discount through Airbnb.org.

How it works

FLUMC, United Way, GEM, and local 211 contact centers are identifying residents in need of temporary housing and help connect them to Airbnb.org stays. They are specifically focused on residents who have either lost their home or been forced to evacuate due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Impacted residents can request assistance for temporary housing support from Airbnb.org in the following ways:

  • Florida: Florida residents displaced by the storms and looking for housing support in Pinellas, Hernando, Hillsborough, Charlotte, Escambia, Santa Rosa, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Walton, Okaloosa, Gulf, Lee, Hendry, Glades, Leon, Taylor, Wakulla, Madison, Liberty, Gadsden, Franklin, and Jefferson should contact their local 211, which they can find at 211.orgFor support in Sarasota and Manatee, residents should reach out to FLUMC at (863) 688-5563 or (800) 282-8011 (toll-free). Those in Pasco County should contact GEM at (800) 995-7604. Airbnb.org is only offering temporary housing in the counties listed above at this time.

Manatee County currently also has 2 Point Of Distribution Centers that have food, water and tarps, locations and hours are:

Blackstone Park, 2112 14th Ave W, Palmetto, FL 34221
